HVAC Pleated Air Filters

HVAC pleated air filters are among the most commonly used filters in residential and commercial applications. These filters are satisfactory for the average home that only requires moderate air filtration. HVAC pleated air filters are not the best choice for individuals who suffer from allergies and require very clean air.

For the average home, hvac furnace filters will do a good job of removing most dust and contaminants from the air and help reduce dust in the home. Pleated air filters come in a range of efficiencies and can even be treated with an oily film to increase their effectiveness.

There are many hvac filter manufacturers and these filters are available in all sizes. Most residential hvac equipment is designed to accept one-inch thick filters but your duct system can be modified so that filters thicker than one inch can be installed. Although one inch is the most common thickness, two, four and even six inch thick filters are available.

HVAC pleated air filters that are thicker than one inch can remain in use for longer periods of time before it is necessary to replace them. A pleated air filter, four or six inches thick can potentially remain in your hvac system for six months or more.

The material used to form the pleats in made of different materials. Some manufacturers use material that requires a wire mesh backing which helps to keep the filter material rigid and some manufacturers use material that is rigid enough to keep its shape without extra support.

It is important to not allow hvac pleated air filters to get too dirty because they restrict airflow a great deal as they become full.
